Our first stop after Rome, and already the pace feels different. This is Ancona Cathedral, perched high above the Adriatic like it’s been keeping an eye on the sea for centuries (spoiler: it has — parts of it date back to the 11th century).

We wandered up the hill just before lunch and found ourselves looking out over fishing boats and distant cargo ships, with that particular hush that comes when you're between city and countryside.
