The books were untouched, the tea had gone cold, and somehow that was exactly how it should be. 

It was one of those laid-back escapes at Narrabeen where time slowed right down. The surf changed tempo like a song I hadn’t heard in years. I remember the sand in everything, the salty towels hanging from the balcony, and that particular kind of afternoon light that makes you feel like maybe nothing urgent really needs doing.

This was that kind of room. Just windows, weather, and the permission to be still.
