Lamp On, Harbour Settling

You arrive just as the evening finishes rearranging itself. Shoes off, lamp on, a chair that feels like it’s been waiting. Outside, the harbour has already started twinkling — boats easing home, lights blinking on one by one, the city speaking softly to itself.

Inside, everything slows. The lamp warms the corner, the room exhales, and for a while you sit there watching the water hold its breath between reflections. Somewhere along the Sydney foreshore, this feels like enough — a small pocket of calm with the whole harbour keeping watch.
