This piece marks a real return to landscape for me — and at 1.2 x 1.5 metres, it’s the largest work I’ve made in a long time. Working at this scale was completely absorbing — every edge, every shift in value felt like it had weight.

I’m fascinated by reflections. How water can be another version of the sky. A kind of alter ego, another life.

It’s been years since I’ve worked at this size, and I’d forgotten how immersive it can be — every brushstroke felt like I was living in the landscape as I was painting it.
