Weekend at Avalon

I didn’t grow up on the northern beaches of Sydney, but I grew up with them. I had friends who lived out this way, and by the time Friday rolled around, I’d be packing a bag to stay the weekend—surfboard optional, bathers essential.

Places like Avalon hold that nostalgic weight for me… not quite home, but close enough to pretend. I guess that’s why I keep painting these views. They’re postcards to a snapshot of myself that still hasn’t quite left.
