Where We Sat Afterwards

The best rooms on the Northern Beaches don’t really have walls.

They have railings.
Air that tastes faintly of the sea.
A horizon that keeps shifting long after you’ve come inside.

I remember days like this —
towel thrown down, skin warm from the sun,
the ocean still moving in your ears.

You sit.
You don’t say much.
You let the light do what it’s always done.
